Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a shop in Brixton Station Road.
The shop’s basement and part of the ground floor were damaged by fire.
Approximately 40 people were evacuated from the leisure centre above the shop.
The Brigade was called at 0951 and the fire was under control at 1036. Fire crews from Brixton, Clapham, Peckham and Lambeth fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
