Bearded dragon called Joey rescued from Mottingham house fire

Firefighters rescued a bearded dragon lizard called Joey from a house fire on Cattistock Road in Mottingham this afternoon.

A car caught fire on the driveway and the fire spread to the two storey house. The car was completely destroyed by the blaze and part of the ground floor was damaged.

Station Manager Richard Arnold said:

“When firefighters arrived they found a car fully alight which had spread to the ground floor house. Fire crews contained the fire to the lounge. The family – one adult and two children – had left the property before the Brigade arrived.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a bearded dragon called Joey. Thankfully he was unhurt.”

The Brigade was called at 1227 and the fire was under control by 1251. Fire crews from Eltham. Bromley and Sidcup fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation
