Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers were called to reports of a smoke issuing from the basement of a hotel on Piccadilly.
A small rubbish fire occurred in a light well adjacent to the hotel's basement.
Approximately 150 hotel guests and 50 members of staff were evacuated before the arrival of the Brigade.
The Brigade was called at 1116 and the incident was over at 1338. Fire crews from Soho, Chelsea, Euston and Lambeth fire stations are at the scene.
