Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a shop in Morning Lane in Hackney.

The shop's ducting (extraction system) between the ground and first floors was damaged by fire. Part of the ground floor and part of the first floor were also damaged in the blaze.

The Brigade was called at 1245 and the fire was under control at 1423. Fire crews from Homerton, Bethnal Green and Stoke Newington fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental and due to cooking deposits within the ducting catching alight.
