A woman was rescued by firefighters after a fire at a flat in Coe Avenue in South Norwood this morning.

Part of a flat on the first floor of the building was damaged by fire.

One woman was rescued from the affected flat by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. The woman was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene by firefighters and London Ambulance Service crews.

A further 12 residents self evacuated the block of flats before the arrival of the Brigade.

The Brigade was called at 0912 and the fire was under control at 0958. Two fire engines from Woodside and Croydon fire stations are at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
