Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a recycling centre in Chequers Lane in Dagenham.
A metal shredder in an open yard was damaged by fire.
The Brigade was called at 2008 and the fire was under control at 2144. Fire crews from Barking and Dagenham fire stations attended the scene.
