Six fire engines and around 35 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a residential building under construction on the High Street in Stratford last night.

The small fire gutted a builder’s paladin (a large metal bin on wheels used to collect rubbish from the flats) in a flat on the 31st floor.  The building is a new development and was unoccupied at the time of the blaze.  Fortunately no injuries were reported.

The Brigade was called at 2210 and the fire was under control by 0056.  Fire crews from Stratford, poplar, Leytonstone, Plaistow, Homerton and Leyton fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire was accidental.
