Two fire engines and around 10 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at an assisted living block in Royal Orchard Close in Southfields.
One flat was damaged by fire. One woman suffered from smoke inhalation and she was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews. Sadly she later died in hospital.
The Brigade was called at 0815 and the fire was under control at 0945. Fire crews from Wandsworth and Fulham fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
