Smoke visible for miles following fire near Royal Docks

Brigade ‘999’ Control Officers took around 35 emergency calls to a fire on the site of the Old Millennium Mills building near the Royal Docks in Silvertown last night.

The fire was confined to a portable cabin which contained office furniture but smoke from the blaze could be seen for miles around.

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers from Plaistow, Millwall, Stratford and East Ham fire stations attended the scene.

The Brigade was called at 2119 and the fire was under control by 2207.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
