Small basement fire in Oxford Street

Firefighters dealt with a small fire in the basement of a large department store on Oxford Street in the early hours of this morning.

Fire crews used carbon dioxide extinguishers to bring the electrical fire under control. Twenty-six people left the building before the Brigade arrived.

Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers from Soho, Euston, Paddington and Lambeth fire stations were at the scene.

The Brigade was called at 0331 and the fire was under control by 0524.
