Vauxhall – hostel fire

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers tackled a fire in a hostel on Bondway, Vauxhall in the early hours of this morning.

A bedsit on the first floor was completely destroyed by the blaze. Thankfully there was no one in the flat at the time of the fire.

Four men from the floor affected by fire were led to safety by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. They were all suffering from smoke inhalation and two of the men were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

The Brigade was called at 0334 and the fire was under control by 0515. Fire crews were Lambeth and Brixton fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
