Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a fire in a semi-detached house on Chesterfield Close in Orpington during the early hours of this morning.
The fire badly damaged the ground and first floors of the property. Crews wearing breathing apparatus rescued a woman from the ground floor but sadly she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Brigade was called at 0317 and the fire was under control at 0519. Crews from Orpington and Sidcup fire stations attended the incident.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
