Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a maisonette in Bradwell Avenue, Dagenham.
The second and third floors of the maisonette were badly damaged by fire. Sadly two women were confirmed dead at the scene.
Three men, one woman and two children left the property before the arrival of the Brigade.
Three adults and one child were led to safety from a neighbouring flat by crews wearing breathing apparatus.
The Brigade was called at 0726 and the fire was under control at 0948. Fire crews from Dagenham and Ilford fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
