A candle left unattended in a bedroom is believed to be the cause of a house blaze on Tregunter Road in Chelsea last night.

The whole of loft conversion was damaged by the blaze. Two men and a woman escaped before the Brigade arrived, thankfully uninjured.

Watch Manager Chris Line said:

“Firefighters worked hard to stop the fire from spreading to neighbouring properties. Crews also salvaged paintings from the house saving valuable art work.

“The fire was caused by a candle that was left unattended and caught bedding on fire.  Candles are one of the most common causes of fire. It’s really important that you never leave a candle unattended and keep them away from curtains and anything else that can easily catch fire.”

The Brigade was called at 2202 and the fire was under control by 2356. Firefighters from Chelsea, Fulham, Kensington, Battersea and Hammersmith fire stations attended the scene.
