A man was rescued by firefighters after a fire at a block of flats in Swains Road, Tooting.

Part of the hallway of a flat on the second floor of the building was damaged by fire.

One man was given fire survival guidance by the Brigade’s 999 control officers before being rescued from a second floor balcony by firefighters.

The man was treated at the scene for shock and smoke inhalation by the Brigade before being taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

The Brigade was called at 1545 and the fire was under control at 1709. Fire crews from Tooting, Mitcham and Wimbledon fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and Metropolitan Police Service.
