Large evacuation following Blackfriars Bridge hotel fire

Hundreds of guests and staff evacuated a hotel near Blackfriars Bridge after fire broke out.

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to the fire at the hotel of fifteen floors and two basements on Upper Ground this evening.

Before crews arrived the 450 guests and 111 staff had left the property. There are no reports of any injures.

A small section of the ducting from the ground floor kitchen to the roof was damaged in the blaze. There are no reports of any injuries.

The Brigade was called at 1813 and the fire was under control at 2016. Fire crews from Dowgate, Soho and Euston fire stations attended the scene.
