Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers tackled a fire in a basement on Ashburnham Place in Greenwich this afternoon.
Most of the basement in the terraced house of two floors was damaged in the blaze. Fortunately no one was injured in the fire but sadly two cats died.
The Brigade was called at 1501 and the fire was under control at 1603. Fire crews from Greenwich, Deptford, Lee Green and Old Kent Road fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
