Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a residential care home in Airthrie Road, Goodmayes.
Part of the first floor and part of the roof of the building were damaged by fire.
Eight people were evacuated by care home staff before the arrival of the Brigade.
The Brigade was called at 2243 and the fire was under control at 2335. Fire crews from Ilford and Dagenham fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
