Forest Gate - car crashes into shop front

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a shop in Woodgrange Road in Forest Gate.

The fire was as a result of a car crashing into the shop. Firefighters arrived to find the car alight, which had spread to the shop.

The ground floor of the shop and the car were destroyed in the blaze. Part of the first floor of the shop was also damaged by fire.

The Brigade was called at 0541 and the fire was under control at 0649. Fire crews from Stratford, Leytonstone, Plaistow and Leyton fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire was the ignition of petrol vapour from an electrical spark due to the collision damage to the car.
