Four fire engines and 21 firefighters tackled a fire in a flat above a shop on Goat Road, Mitcham in the early hours of this morning.
Half of a first floor flat and part of the loft conversion was damaged by the blaze.
A man left the property before the Brigade arrived. He was suffering from slight smoke inhalation and treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews. A further five people from adjacent flats self evacuated.
The Brigade was called at 0143 and the fire was under control by 0237. Fire crews from Mitcham, Wallington and Norbury fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
