Kensal Town – flat fire

Eight fire engines and 58 firefighters and officers tackled a flat blaze on Golborne Road in Kensal Town.

A flat on the 27th floor was left badly damaged. A woman and two children evacuated the affected flat before the Brigade arrived.  A further 200 people left  the block before the Brigade arrived.  There were no reports of any injuries.

The Brigade’s 999 control centre took over forty calls about the blaze.

The cause of the fire is believed to be careless disposal of a cigarette on the balcony which caught bedding and towels alight.

The Brigade was called at 2123 and the fire was under control by 2251. Fire crews from North Kensington, Paddington, Kensington, Willesden, Hammersmith and West Hampstead fire stations were are at the scene.
