Firefighters were called to a fire in a maisonette on Elmbridge Walk in Hackney during the early hours of Saturday morning (29 April)
Crews rescued the maisonette’s occupant and she was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service where she sadly later died.
The fire damaged part of the living room on the first floor of the maisonette.
The Brigade was called at 0206 and the incident was under control at 0248. Two fire engines and 14 firefighters and officers from Bethnal Green and Homerton fire stations attended the incident.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
