Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a mid terraced house in Greenwood Road in Hackney.

The second floor of the property was completely damaged by fire.

One man and one women left the property before the arrival of the Brigade.

The Brigade was called at 1445 and the fire was under control at 1554. Fire crews from Homerton, Bethnal Green and Stoke Newington fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is believed to be due to a cigarette lighter that had not been extinguished.
