Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a block of flats in Perth Road, Gants Hill.

A flat on the fifth floor of the block was damaged by fire.

Approximately 30 people evacuated the building before the arrival of the Brigade. One woman was treated for shock at the scene by firefighters.

The Brigade was called at 1815 and the fire was under control at 1938. Fire crews from Hainault, Woodford, Stratford and Leytonstone fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental and due to an iron left on for a prolonged period.
