A man was led to safety by firefighters after a fire at a block of flats in Jubilee Street, Whitechapel.
Part of a ground floor flat was damaged by fire.
Firefighters brought a man to safety and he was treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation.
The Brigade was called at 0158 and the fire was under control at 0247. Fire crews from Shadwell and Whitechapel fire stations attended the scene.
The fire is believed to have been caused by cooking left unattended.
