Erith – Industrial recycling unit fire

Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a industrial recycling unit on Church Manorway, Erith earlier this morning.

Staff on site were alerted to the fire thanks to an automatic alarm sounding and called the Brigade.

The fire gutted the ducting – the building’s extraction system – on the fifth to the seventh floor of the eight storey block.  

Crews remained at the scene for some time damping down.

The incident was attended by crews from Erith, Bexley, Plumstead, Sidcup and East Greenwich fire stations.  The Brigade was called at 0309 and the incident was under control by 0833.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
