Two fire engines and 14 firefighters and officers were called to a house fire on Derinton Road in Tooting during the early hours of this morning.
The fire damaged the first floor of the end of terraced property. Sadly crews wearing breathing apparatus found a man in a first floor bedroom and he was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman left the property before the Brigade arrived.
The Brigade was called at 0442 and the fire was under control by 0535. Crews from Tooting fire station attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
