Three fire engines and 14 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a block of flats in Poplar Place, Thamesmead.
Part of a flat on the first floor of the building was damaged by fire.
Two people in the affected flat were given fire survival guidance by the Brigade’s 999 control officers before they were led to safety by firefighters.
The Brigade was called at 1332 and the fire was under control at 1416. Fire crews from Plumstead, Erith and Bexley fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
