Sinkhole in Plumstead

Firefighters evacuated 48 people after a small sink hole opened up in front of homes on Brickfield Cottages, off Kings Highway in Plumstead yesterday afternoon.

What caused the 5 by 5 metres hole is as unknown but as a precaution, a hazard zone of a 25 metres was put in place and nearby homes evacuated.

Two fire engines from Plumstead station were at the incident. The Brigade was called at 1346 and the incident was left with the police and the local authority at 2038.
