Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers dealt with a fire in an office block on Albemarle Street in Piccadilly this afternoon.

Part of the basement of the seven storey block was damaged by the fire.

The alarm was raised by a receptionist who saw smoke coming from a vent. She activated the alarm and around 100 people left the building before the arrival of the Brigade.

The Brigade was called at 1403 and the incident was under control by 1646. Fire crews from Soho, Lambeth and Euston fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
