Chemical leak on London Wall

Firefighters dealt with a suspected chemical incident in an office block on London Wall, EC2.

The chemical was ammonia leaking from fridge in an office on the third floor. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus found elevated readings which have now returned to acceptable levels. 

Around 100 people were evacuated from the building. Two women were treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews.

London Fire Brigade spokesperson said:

“Firefighters brought the fridge out of the building and used detection equipment to identify the chemical."

The Brigade was called at 1452 and the incident was over by 1610. Fire crews from Homerton and Dowgate fire stations as well as other specialist equipment.
