Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers dealt with a rubbish fire on New Road in Rainham, yesterday evening.

About two tons of mixed rubbish was entirely destroyed by the blaze, but thankfully no one was injured.

There was three gas cylinders involved in the fire. They were removed by firefighters and cooled down as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.

The Brigade was called at 1806 and the fire was under control by 1945. Fire crews from Dagenham, Hornchurch and Wennington fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
