Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers dealt with a flat blaze on Livermere Street in Hackney.
A second floor flat was badly damaged by fire. A man left the property before the Brigade arrived. London Ambulance Service crews attended.
The Brigade was called at 0914 and the fire was under control by 1000. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire crews from Shoreditch, Bethnal Green, Islington and Stoke Newington fire stations were at the scene.
