Twenty-five people evacuated from their homes while firefighters tackled a fire at a shop with flats above it on West Green Road in Tottenham, in the early hours of this morning.

Twelve people left the affected property before the arrival of the Brigade and crews wearing breathing apparatus evacuated 13 other people from adjacent properties.

A woman and a child were treated at the scene by the London Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation.

Part of the ground floor was damaged by fire and half of the shop flat roof was also damaged in the blaze.

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers from Tottenham and Stoke Newington fire stations attended the incident.

The Brigade was called 0504 and the fire was under control at 0926. The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical.
