Fire at commercial property

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters tackled a rubbish fire at an electricity sub station on West Barnes Lane in New Malden, yesterday afternoon.

The pile of rubbish and tyres was completely damaged by fire and a cylinder at the scene was cooled by crews.

Fire engines from New Malden, Kingston, Sutton and Surbiton fire stations attended the incident.

The fire is believed to have been caused by the careless disposal of a cigarette.

The Brigade was called 1342 and the fire was under control at 1548. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
