Woman rescued from Plaistow house fire

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a woman from a house fire on Barking Road in Plaistow yesterday evening.

The woman was rescued from a loft conversion second floor window and taken to safety via an internal staircase, before being taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service.

The whole of the basement and half of the ground floor of the end of terraced house was damaged by fire.

Six fire engines and 35 firefighters form East Ham, Shadwell, Poplar and Stratford fire stations attended the incident.

The Brigade was called at 1747 and the fire was under control at 2031. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
