A man has sadly died in hospital following a flat fire on Alderwood Road in Eltham last night.
The fire badly damaged the living room and there was heavy smoke throughout the rest of the property.
Firefighters brought the man out of the bedroom of the property and he was taken to hospital where he sadly died.
Eight residents from surrounding flats evacuated the block before the Brigade arrived.
The Brigade was called at 2316 and the fire was under control by 0024. Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers from Sidcup, Bexley and East Greenwich fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
