More than 20 firefighters tackled a fire at a block of flats on Bream Close in Tottenham, yesterday afternoon.

The fire affected a block of four floors and half of a four roomed flat on the first floor was damaged by fire.

Fortunately there were no injuries.

Four fire engines from Tottenham, Walthamstow and Stoke Newington fire stations attended the incident.

The fire is believed to have been caused by an electric blanket.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “We believe the fire was caused by an overheated electric blanket. It is very important to make sure that electrical items, like electric blankets, are switched off when you leave the house. Electric blankets shouldn’t be left on overnight either as they can overheat and then catch fire.”

The Brigade was called at 1532 and the fire was under control at 1622.
