A man has died and a young girl is seriously injured following a road traffic collision on the A13 in the early hours of this morning.

When firefighters arrived they found a westbound Vauxhall Vectra had collided at speed with an eastbound VW Passat minicab on the Alfreds Way flyover in Barking.

The driver of the Vectra was pronounced dead at the scene. Firefighters used cutting equipment to free the occupants of the minicab. The male driver and three passengers were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

One passenger - a young girl, has injuries that are being treated as life threatening.

Barking Fire Station Watch Manager Darren Barnett said:

“All members of the emergency services worked incredibly hard to help rescue those involved and I praise the professionalism of firefighters at the scene. Crews used cutting equipment and safely freed those trapped as quickly as possible.”

The flyover is currently closed and traffic is being diverted but the Brigade advises that people avoid the area if possible.

The Police are calling for anyone who witnessed the collision, or the events leading up to the collision, is asked to contact the witness line on 020 8597 4874.
