Uxbridge - fire in stairwell of hostel

Four fire engines were called to a fire at a hostel on the High Street in Uxbridge last night.

One person was rescued from the second floor by fire crews wearing breathing apparatus while a further eight people were led to safety from the first and second floors.  Fortunately no injuries are reported.

Half of the communal staircase from the first to the second floor was damaged by fire.

Watch Manager Tracie Orchard attended the scene: “The first fire crews at the scene worked really hard; wearing breathing apparatus they got everyone out and extinguished the fire really quickly.”

Fire crews from Hillingdon, Ruislip and Heathrow attended incident.  They were called at 2146 and the incident was over by 2310.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
