Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a flat fire on Kemble Road in Croydon yesterday evening (Monday, 5 December).

Crews wearing breathing apparatus rescued a man from the living room of the first floor flat. He was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service where he sadly later died.

Around half of the four roomed property in the converted terraced house was damaged by the fire.

The Brigade was called at 1902 and the fire was under control by 1942. Crews from Croydon, Wallington and Norbury fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
