Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a house fire on Devonshire Road in Sutton this morning.

The fire gutted the roof of a three storey terraced house and damaged around half the roof of an adjacent property.

Station Manager Richard Knighton who was at the scene said: "This was a block of three terraced houses and firefighters at the scene did an excellent job of stopping the blaze from spreading, managing to confine it to the roofs of two of the houses."

Thankfully there were no injuries and six people left the affected properties before the Brigade arrived

The Brigade was called at 1110 and the fire was under control by 1253

Crews from Sutton and Croydon fire stations attended the incident. An aerial ladder platform was also in use at the incident as an observation platform.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
