Firefighters were called to reports of smoke coming from a house on Park Terrace, St John’s Road in Carshalton on Sunday afternoon.
Crews found a pan on the cooker which was smoking and removed it to the garden. A woman was found unconscious in the hallway of the terraced house but sadly she was later confirmed dead at the scene.
Two fire engines and around ten firefighters from Wallington and Mitcham fire stations attended the incident. The Brigade was called at 1356 and the incident was over at 1540.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
