Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers tackled a fire in a flat being used as a cannabis factory on Cowley Road in Uxbridge, this afternoon.

A small area of the ground floor shop and half of a four roomed flat on the first floor was damaged by fire.

Met Police spokesman said:

"A cannabis factory was discovered within the property. All cannabis plants and cultivation equipment has been removed from the property."

"No arrests have yet been made and police are continuing to make enquiries.

Last year there were 25 fires in cannabis factories - around one every fortnight.

There were no injuries.

Firefighters from Hillingdon, Ruislip and Heathrow fire stations attended the incident.

The Brigade was called at 1618 and the fire was under control at 1834. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
