Eight fire engines and 58 firefighters and officers dealt with a warehouse blaze on Grenfell Avenue in Hornchurch.

Half of the first floor of the two storey disused warehouse was damaged by the blaze. The fire also affected an adjacent block of flats. A flat on the second floor and part of the roof was badly damaged by fire.

Station Manager Joe Kenny, who is at the scene said:

“The fire has severely damaged the warehouse and spread to a flat at the rear of the property. Ten people evacuated the block of flats before firefighters arrived and thankfully there are no injuries.”

The Brigade was called at 1136 and the fire was under control by 1351. Fire crews from Hornchurch, Romford, Ilford, Barking, Wennington, East Ham and Plaistow fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
