Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers are dealing with a gas leak from a high pressure main on Church Manorway in Erith.
Firefighters are liaising with engineers from Southern Gas Networks who are working to fix the eight inch main.
Station Manager Bruce Grain said:
“We've reduced the exclusion zone and the road closures just affect Church Manorway. We'll continue to assist the gas company while they fix the issue.”
A spokesperson for Southern Gas Networks said:
"We have temporarily secured the site.
"We’re currently assessing the damage which has occurred and will be able to make a decision about the road closure and exclusion zone in the next couple of hours."
The Brigade was called at 0941.
