Crews called to unexploded WW2 bomb near Spitalfields

Firefighters supported police officers this morning while they investigated reports of an unexploded World War two bomb found by construction workers on a site at the junction of Commercial and Brushfield Streets near Spitalfields

Cordons were put in place and local businesses were evacuated as a precaution while the incident was dealt with. The device was safely removed from the scene by the Metropolitan Police.

The Brigade was called at 1119 and crews left the scene at 1205.

A fire rescue unit and fire engine from Bethnal Green and Leytonstone fire stations attended the scene along with ten firefighters.
