Fire crews helped around 100 people leave a block of flats on Weymouth Terrace in Haggerston, E2 this morning following a gas leak.
The residents are waiting in a local community centre while gas engineers investigate the source of the leak.
A 25 metre safety cordon has been put in place.
The Brigade was called at 0213. Four fire engines, two fire rescue unit and around 30 firefighters and officers from Shoreditch, Homerton, Whitechapel and Stoke Newington are attending the incident. They are likely to remain at the scene for some time while the leak is dealt with by engineers.
