Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a compost waste fire on an industrial estate on Coldharbour Lane in Rainham.
Ten tonnes of compost waste was alight.
No-one was injured in the fire.
Crews from Wennington, Barking and Dagenham fire stations attended the incident.
The Brigade was called at 0435 and the fire was under control at 0753.
