Firefighters tackled a fire at a range of shops with flats above it on High Street North in Manor Park, this morning.

Two men left the building before the arrival of the Brigade. A third man self evacuated from a flat roof and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service suffering from burns.

Part of a flat roof at first floor level was damaged by fire and a small part of the flat roof of an adjacent property was also damaged in the blaze.

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters from Plaistow, Stratford, Barking and Dagenham fire stations attended the incident.

The Brigade was called at 1153 and the fire was under control at 1342. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental and due to hot cutting on the roof.
